Welcome Fall!

By now you've probably heard about the spotted lantern fly. They're not harmful to people or pets but they are super destructive to valuable plants. This is their breeding season in New Jersey so if you hadn't seen them all summer, you may be seeing them now. Crush immediately to prevent their spread. Their nests look like webs and should you see one, remove it immediately. Report sightings in NJ here: SLF-plantindustry@ag.nj.gov

Time for jack-o-lanterns and fire pits!

Fall conjures up thoughts of the coming holiday season and Halloween kicks it all off. While we are adorning our homes we're also cleaning up outdoor spaces. Many flowering plants will last until frost and it's nice to enjoy them until their natural end. Fall is generally not the time for pruning shrubs ... late winter or early spring is usually best. It is an excellent time for planting shrubs, however so if you get them in now they can establish over the winter and you'll be ahead of the game next spring - think sprucing up hedges or filling in borders.

Many plants like Hosta spread so if your gardens are getting a bit over crowded, now is an excellent time to move them to a new location.

People often start decorating for Christmas on Thanksgiving weekend. If you need help, please call! It's a busy time for us and we appreciate being able to get those lights up before the weather gets too cold. We can always put them up before you turn them on.

Before and After!

Beautifying an overgrown hill

First we cleared the land and planted several Baby Blue Spruce trees.

This island bed will mature and provide a pretty focal point.

Along with Baby Blue Spruce we planted Red Bud trees. Shrubs include Forest Pansy, Limelight Hydrangea, lilac bushes and other flowering perennials. Over time the tress and shrubs will fill in but retain a neater appearance.
