My Story

My name is Rafael Vail and I help my clients create their own personal oases by combining the beauty of gardens and useable living space including lawn and hardscape (stonework) to suit their own personal needs.

Possibly the most important factor in my work is a love for the environment. Being in the outdoors has sustained and inspired me going back to my early childhood days in Guatemala when I envisioned becoming a caretaker of the environment.

Fast forward to 2007 when I arrived in the United states at the age of 19. With the unwavering support of my mother who taught me that anything is possible with hard work and belief in myself I embarked on a new adventure that brought my dreams to life in a practical way.

Working with garden and landscape design for close to 15 years is a blessing. It connects me with nature and fuels my creative drive. Creating something beautiful from nothing is a magical experience and nothing beats watching a garden develop, sometimes over years, and come into its own.

Of course you can’t just stick a plant in the ground and forget about it. It takes knowledge and planning to pick the right spot for each plant in terms of light and soil conditions, as well as bloom time and pruning needs. Nurturing these living spaces in an eco-friendly way is like raising a child. Watching them bloom and grow and seeing the pleasure they bring my clients is my greatest reward.

When I’m not hanging out with plants, you can find me cycling, hiking and taking advantage of all the outdoors has to offer. When it’s raining, you might find me inside playing my guitar.
